Ministry Position: Discipleship Development, Church Help, Leader of a CAM Team, Patzún Radio
What were your goals? Continue encouraging the leaders at Alfa y Omega. Keep the church and school functioning; Look for additional funding and ways to get Alfa y Omega to be self-supporting.
Were they met? Yes, with the encouragement and keeping the church and school going. But I did not seem to make a lot of progress on the funding and/or self-sustaining part. However, I was able to make some good contacts and maybe some things might begin to develop. Praise the Lord, we did end 2008 with all the bills paid and are currently up to date.
Relate one of the biggest joys in your ministry: Our neighbor, Leonel (Ginita’s husband) has come to know the Lord and is growing in the Lord. Also recently, a young person came to salvation at Alfa. The Patzún Radio is continuing to plug along and I just learned of two wonderful testimonies. I will try to share them with you in the next weeks.
Relate one of the biggest disappointments/discouragement: The brothers decided to drop the Junior High for this year, because of the expense. But we hope to be able to begin with 7th grade again this next year with more students. There is still a lot of hurt from the pastor that left and healing and reorganization takes time. There is a big need for Spiritual Leadership and Servant hearts.
Relate some of the stresses in your ministry: Developing Mature Spiritual Leadership. I want to do so many different things, but don’t have the resources (people and financial) and time to do them. The store will hopefully be finished this month. I am also in charge of the construction at LBN in Panajachel, which is requiring more time there as well. We need to get the roof poured before the middle of May and the entire electrical conduit needs to go in before that.
How can we help – prayer: Pray for more missionaries. Pray for strength, health, safety. Pray for the ability and patience for us, and the Holy Spirit to develop mature spiritual leaders. Pray for Alfa y Omega to become more independent and the loan to be paid off.
Communications: Promotion of Alfa y Omega and the needs of the school.
Other: Pray for someone to come and help at the school for a year, teaching English.
In regards to your spiritual life relate one of the biggest joys:
1. Knowing God is in control, even in these days, and that He is still working in lives, both here and around the world
2. Looking back over the year and seeing how God has worked
In regard to your family life relate one of the biggest joys: To know that the children are following in the steps of the Lord.
Has there been a change in your ministry or location resulting from family needs or other concerns?
There hasn’t been a change yet, but we are planning on moving to Patzún this year, if everything ‘works out.’ We will move into a couple of rooms on campus of Alfa & Omega. This will be a challenge! The brothers have offered space to build a house on the property – if and when the Lord provides the resources to do so.
Have you been able to spend time as a family in non-ministry activities? Not much. That is something I struggle with …time apart to rest and recover. There is so much to do and not enough people to do it.
Ministry: Finish the construction at Las Buenas Nuevas. Pour the final roof this month of April or the very first part of May – before the rains start. Do a radio program with Alfa y Omega on the Kakchiquel Radio. Move to Patzun and have several people involved in projects (greenhouse, etc.). New well at Alfa dug and make a windmill for a pump.
Personal: Be more personally involved with training of the leaders at Alfa y Omega. Read 5 good Christian books. Attend our son, Kyle’s, wedding May 30, in southern California. Celebrate my Dad’s 90th birthday in June in St. Louis, MO.
When is your next home assignment scheduled? We are thinking about coming up for some conferences in the fall and we might continue on to Canada. If imminent is there anything we can do to help you prepare?
Once you are back in North America? There are always extra expenses while we are in North America. Flights; renting a car; gas; etc.
