Andrew & Lori, along with their three sons, Ethan, Micah and Jedidiah, live in Manila, Philippines. Andrew is a faculty with Asia Graduate School of Theology, which is a consortium of 9 seminaries. As such, Andrew teaches New Testament courses in these consortium schools. For example, next semester he will teach New Testament Greek at Alliance Graduate Seminary, Colossians at Biblical Seminary of the Philippines, and Matthew-Mark at Asia Pacific Nazarene Theological Seminary. His teaching also takes him to neighboring countries like India, Nepal, and Fiji. Teaching in Manila schools has additional benefit: Andrew has students from closed countries such as China, Burma, Indonesia, and Mongolia.
Lori teaches at one of the largest school for missionary kids, Faith Academy. Lori specializes in teaching English as a Second Language (ESL). Thus, she has many students whose mother tongue is not English.
The Spurgeons are also active in the local church, Greenhills Christian Fellowship. Ethan and Micah are juniors at high school. Jedidiah is a freshman. Thank you for partnering with the Spurgeons as they serve the Lord in Asia.
2009 Updates:
In February: Lori led several students from Faith Academy middle school to three tribal schools in a place nearly 3 hours from Manila to teach them Bible stories and Christian songs. Nearly 200 middle school kids from Faith Academy were involved and all were blessed by
In March: I had the greatest joy of seeing 24 of my students graduate with masters degrees. They were from two different seminaries that I teach. Some of have already gone to mission fields like Japan, Cambodia, and Muslim islands in the Philippines.
Last week: l spoke in a professional’s camp, for three days, organized by a Chinese church. I gave five lectures on ‘integrity in the work-place.’ More than 60 young professionals were there. Although we had expected Christians to come to the camp, many were non-Christians. At
the end of the camp, a few of the professionals accepted the Lord as their savior.
Besides these teachings: Lori leads a Bible study for the ladies in our local church and participates in two prayer groups. I teach an adult Sunday school in our church (we are going through Romans), a small Bible study for some high school boys on Tuesday afternoons, and
a Bible study for some families in our neighborhood on Wednesday evenings. I am part of an accountability group for men and we meet on Tuesday nights for prayer and encouragements.
Family: Both Ethan and Micah have been accepted in various colleges. Now we are waiting to hear about their scholarships. Please pray. Ethan wants to do sports medicine and has been accepted at Wheaton, Bryan College, and John Brown University. Micah wants to do avionics and has been accepted at LeTourneau, San Diego Christian College, Providence (Canada), and John Brown University.
Prayer: Please pray for God’s wisdom and lots of scholarship. Safe travel as our furlough begins in June. Housing and a car while on furlough.
