The Thimells have served with Cadence International since 1983 when it was still called Overseas Christian Servicemen’s Centers in Panama, South Korea, and Germany as Hospitality House directors and as Europe field business manager.
In June 2000 Eric was reassigned to Cadence Headquarters to assist the Controller in the Finance Department, working specifically to care for technical issues concerning missionary and headquarters financial reporting and handle legal and government issues affecting the non-profit status of Cadence. He was also responsible for maintaining the mission database and the financial software used by our field missionaries.
In 2004, Eric moved to the Information Technology Resource Group which is a part of the Finance Department here at Cadence. He keeps the accounting and donor software up to date and coordinates the integration of new software initiatives into the existing architecture. The latest initiatives (not all of which are finished) include online donations, online reimbursements, and online mail list updates. Online field accounting is now on the horizon. In this current role, he is assisted by a part-time project manager, Derek Branstrom. Derek has been a huge help in pushing our new projects forward with vendors and outside engineers.
Along with Eric’s increased technical workload, the ITRG chairman, David Cordell, was promoted to Vice President for Finance leaving Eric and Derek as the core of the IT department at Cadence. Last spring he rewired the network and much of the power for the completely rebuilt accounting area. (Come visit us to see it!) Eric continues to build, repair, and install computers and workstation software and care for other headquarters technical concerns such as telephones and network hardware and database issues.
On the home front, Janet continued to homeschool our son Ben up until last fall when he began a graphics design course at Pickens Technical College. When he finishes in the spring he will get his High School diploma along with a Graphics Design certificate. He hopes to attend Metro State in Denver next fall. Our daughter Elizabeth graduated from Adams State last spring and while waiting for her husband Kyle to complete his final year of college has been working as a teaching assistant at Adams State and has applied to several grad schools. With her decreased workload at home, Janet has been serving as a corporate chaplain with Marketplace Chaplains (http://mchapusa.com/) and is the Area Team Manager for a four state area. She was recently selected from among over 2000 chaplains as the 2008 Chaplain of the Year. She also teaches a Women of the Word class at their local church in Englewood. Eric continues to teach Bible and theology courses part time at Rocky Mountain Bible College and Seminary (http://www.rmbc.edu). He is also a member of the Men’s University leadership team at their local church.
Updates:
You have prayed and God has answered: Cadence has opened 2 new Hospitality Houses, one in Spangdahlem, Germany and one in Grafenwoehr, Germany. This is in spite the drawdown in Germany in which our Darmstadt and Hanau communities have closed. New ministeries are being developed for 2009 in Guam, Hawaii an at Ft. Carson, Colorado.
Our Military Children’s Ministry is exploding and we are in great need of workers to staff the ministry at 2 more elementary schools at Ft. Hood, Texas. (We are all ready staffing 6 elementary schools there!) Children are being reached for Christ!
Pray for the Lands of Russia ministry. The political situations, doors are closing for evangelism ministries in all but the Ukraine. Pray for the believer there to be able to carry on in ministry to their own military communities in spite of our not being able to enter freely as before.
Eric has been laboring hard to put new technologies into place that will benefit our missionaries as well as our supporters.
Janet continues to work as a corporate chaplain. What a privilege to be surrounded by unbelievers and to be able to share Christ with them.
